Corrosion Protection Products

Petrotape
A stitch-bonded polyester or polypropylene `bandage' heavily impregnated with a petrolatum compound containing special rust inhibitors; it is waterproof and highly resistant to acids, alkalis and salts. For this reason Petrotape is particularly suitable for application to structural steel, piping and all metal surfaces subject to atmospheric or chemical corrosion. The tape is completely ‘moldable’ to any contour and will adhere with the aid of Petroprimers to any non-porous surface. It is non-cracking, non-hardening and unaffected by vibration.

Petro Paste
A thick paste which is used as a bedding for Petrotape in wet conditions and on slightly uneven surfaces.
Petro Paste contains an inhibitor, which immediately arrests corrosion on already affected metals and has the ability to displace moisture on a wet surface.

Petro Primer
A liquid solution for metal surfaces prior to the application of Petrotape. It wets the surface completely, penetrates any oxide film and forms an integral bond with the coating compound. It has the same anti-corrosive properties as Petro Paste except that it is used on smoother surfaces.
Application: Brush, Spray, etc.
Coverage: About 9m/litre.

Petro Chrome Paste
Specifications as for Petro Paste, but with metallic Chromate inhibitors added. Used whenever galvanic corrosion may occur on the mating surfaces of dissimilar metals, one of which is Aluminium.

Petro Structural Steel Primer
For all metal surfaces prior to the longitudinal application of Petrotape. This primer contains adhesives that cause the tape to stick tightly to the metal surface.
Application: Brush, Spray, etc.
Coverage: 6m/litre.

Electrical jointing compound
Formulated to reduce oxide build up at mating surfaces particularly where Aluminium is involved. It is waterproof and highly corrosion resistant and is unaffected by atmospheric conditions. Additional protection can be provided by wrapping with Petrotape.
It is suitable for most swaged, bolted and compression joints, the mating surface before jointing of the bolted or clamped joints in busbar, jumper terminal, dead end lug connections, fuse controls etc.

Petromastic
A putty type substance used for filling in irregular shapes so that the Petrotape can be applied over an even contour. Examples include VJ couplings and flanges.

Petro PVC outerwrap
A non-adhesive PVC plastic tape that is wrapped over the Petrotape inner wrap to provide greater mechanical strength and electrical insulation. The outerwrap is secured at both ends with securing tape.

Petro Securing tape
A self-adhesive polyethylene plastic tape used to stick or secure outerwrap, Layflat sheeting and even the inner wrap into place.

Petro layflat sheeting
A non-adhesive polyethylene plastic wrapping that is used to cover flanges after the mastic and Petrotape have been applied. It is secured in place with securing tape.

Petro barrier tape
A non-adhesive plastic tape with red and white chevrons which can be used to cordon off areas which are hazardous to passers-by. The tape provides a clearly visible warning of no access areas due to holes, moving machinery or any other potentially dangerous situation.

Petromastic blankets
A layer of mastic with the Petrotape fabric backing for the quick application to couplings and flanges.

Underwater Paste
A priming solution that is used specifically for underwater application.
