Anti-corrosion System

The Petrotape system has been uniquely designed for the protection of iron and steel against corrosion.

This system is so successful as all existing corrosion is arrested and farther corrosion cannot due to the environment, which is maintained, furthermore the metal is sealed from the outside environment and it's corrosive elements.

The Petrotape system consists of 3 compatible parts:

a) A Priming compound that arrests all existing corrosion.
b) A Petrolatum impregnated cloth tape, which also contains rust inhibitors. It is waterproof and highly resistant to acids, alkalis and salts. The tape is completely moldable to any contour and will adhere with the aid of Petroprimers to any non-porous surface. It is cold applied by hand and is non-cracking, non-hardening and unaffected by vibration.
c) A PVC outerwrap that provides mechanical protection and has a high electrical resistance.

THE ADVANTAGES OF THE PETROTAPE SYSTEM ARE :

    USES :
    The following are some of the items that have been successfully protected against corrosion: Pipelines; either underwater, above or below ground, pipeline ancillary fittings, protection of regular shaped jetty piles, protection of finished machined components for transit and storage, flanges, tees, valves, cable joints, all conduit MICC cables, plugging of cable ducts and rough breached entries, tie rods and structural steel.

    It can also be used as an insertion between metal/metal and wood/metal at zones of contact. As the tape is waterproof, it has also been used as waterproofing.

    As the Petrotape system can be used to protect any metal against corrosion, its uses are almost innumerable.

    The most common use for Petrolatum tape is pipeline protection as seen on these supply lines coming from a fuel storage tank.

    "No pipe is too big or too small". This 82m3 diesel fuel tank which is one of nine tanks wrapped with Petrotape and Petro PVC tape for Mobil Oil at Ermelo in the Eastern Transvaal. These tanks were later buried under a concrete driveway.


    15 Km and approximately 300 of these railway electrification masts were entirely covered with the Petrolatum anti-corrosion system.
