Application of the Petrotape anti-corrosion System
Whilst application of the Petrotape system is simple and can be done by unskilled labor it is important that it is correctly applied.
Surface Preparation
Wire brush or chip to remove all loose material e.g. dirt, loose scale, rust etc.
Wash down with clean water to remove rust, dust and salt deposits.
Priming
Apply Petro Primer, Petro Structural Steel Primer or Petro Paste by brush, spray, gloved hand or Rag.
Tape Application
Complete one circumference with the tape and begin to unroll spirally around the pipe ensuring a minimum overlap of 25mm (For tape widths 100mm and less a 15mm overlap can be used).
Apply sufficient tension to allow constant adherence but ensure the tape is not stretched at any time.
Press out folds and air pockets that may occur whilst application takes place.
To ensure the overlaps are all married together smooth over the entire surface.
This Photo illustrates the ease with which steel pipes can be protected. These pipes were wire brushed and washed down with clean water to remove rust, dust and salt deposits. The complete anti-corrosion system for underground pipes is; Priming with Petropaste, wrapping with Petrotape and overwrapping with Petro PVC outerwrap.
The following formula for pipe wrapping will give the total
Number of 10m rolls of tape required including a 5% allowance for contingencies:
No. Of rolls = 0,33 x Pipe OD in mm x Pipe length in mm
Tape width less overlap in mm
